THE MACHINE’S VERDICT
A one-joke tribute built entirely around an old slogan — clever, brief, and exactly as deep as a punchline.
30 Years of Nintendont is a 2018 Sega Genesis tribute from Dr. Ludos, and the whole thing hangs on a single gag: the infamous "Genesis does what Nintendon't" marketing slogan, turned into a gameplay loop where you win market share by knowing the Genesis library better than your rival. As a piece of fan-history performance art it's genuinely witty — console-war nostalgia made playable. As a game, it's exactly what a one-joke premise produces: thin, quick, and over before the novelty wears off. There's not much loop here to keep returning to once you've gotten the bit. I'll defend its existence — it's a knowing, affectionate artifact, and Dr. Ludos commits to the gag. But set your expectations to "amusing curio," not "keeper." Best enjoyed by Genesis lifers and console-war veterans who'll grin at the reference. Everyone else: one play, then move on.

It is native Sega Genesis / Mega Drive code — a smaller scene than Nintendo's, but home to some of homebrew's most ambitious technical work, much of it built with the open-source SGDK toolkit. Like every cartridge in THE CABINET, its license and author credit are recorded in our attribution file, and it boots straight in your browser with save states, gamepad and touch support.
