The software is just MiSTer
You do not flash a proprietary firmware onto this thing. You put an exFAT SD card in it, and the layout is standard MiSTer — the same directory tree a DE10-Nano user would recognise, updated by the same community script. Orders, not units
Be careful reading the "sales" numbers floating around forums. Heber's order book is a numbered fulfilment queue, filled in batches of roughly a thousand. Reports of "17,000" and "20,000" are orders placed, not consoles in living rooms — shipping only began in August 2025, and by early 2026 coverage put it at around 20,000 orders against more than 10,000 fulfilled. The two-per-customer cap on the digital SKU and the recurring "in stock — low" flag tell you the "off-the-shelf, buy-it-anytime" goal originally floated for spring 2026 has effectively slipped. Launched on 21 May 2026, the Multisystem2 Pocket Project is Heber and The Retro Collective's attempt at a handheld MiSTer, run as an open-innovation effort with the community involved "from the start." Five predictions
- The JAMMA edition slips, slightly. "Starts in August, continues into September" is Heber-speak for a queue that will bleed into Q4 2026. Expect the last pre-order cabinets to arrive around October, not September.
- Console prices hold, maybe creep £10–15. They have moved ~£12 in a year through a brutal DRAM market. Barring a tariff shock, the digital stays near £216 into 2027 rather than jumping.
