Retroid Pocket 6 vs 5 (2026): 70% Faster, $45 More
Two Retroid handhelds, thirteen months apart, both wearing the same 5.5-inch face. The Pocket 5 arrived in September 2024 as the sensible flagship of the sub-$200 Android tier. The Pocket 6 arrived on 26 October 2025 as the machine that was supposed to make it obsolete. On paper, it does: a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 where the 5 has a five-year-old 865, a 120Hz panel where the 5 has 60, a fan where the 5 has a prayer and a heat-spreader. On paper is where a lot of upgrade arguments live and die.
This is not a press release, and I am not going to tell you the newer number is bigger and therefore your wallet should open. The interesting question about the Pocket 6 is not whether it is faster than the Pocket 5. It is. The interesting question is whether the specific things it is faster at are things you were ever going to do. Let's take both machines apart.

The Retroid Pocket 5 shipped in September 2024 at $199 for the base 8GB/128GB configuration. The Pocket 6 was announced on 26 October 2025, with pre-orders the following day, and it is the most powerful handheld Retroid has ever put in this slab form factor. That is a real claim and a small one. "Most powerful handheld we have made" is a sentence every hardware company gets to say about every product, forever, until they make a slower one on purpose. What matters is the size of the jump and the cost of buying into it. Both are knowable.
The number that matters, and the one that doesn't
The number that matters: in Geekbench 6, the Pocket 6 posts a single-core score of 1,985 against the Pocket 5's 1,176. That is roughly a 70% uplift, and in the memory-bandwidth benchmark AIDA64 the gap widens to about 80% (1,200,081 versus 668,000), because the 6 moved from LPDDR4X to LPDDR5X. Those are the honest headline figures, and they are large.
The number that doesn't matter, at least not the way the marketing wants it to: the price delta. At launch the Pocket 6 opened at $229, a clean $30 over the Pocket 5. By mid-2026 the base 8GB/128GB model sits at $244 — up $15 from launch, and Retroid said so plainly. That makes the current gap about $45. Forty-five dollars is not nothing, but it is also not the story. The story is what $45 buys, what it doesn't, and why the price moved at all. What the table hides

The Silicon: 865 Meets 8 Gen 2

The Snapdragon 865 was Qualcomm's 2020 flagship — the chip inside a generation of $900 phones, a 7nm part built around a Cortex-A77 prime core and the Adreno 650. It is not a budget SoC. Reading the benchmarks honestly
Single-core Geekbench 6 is the fairest proxy for emulation, because most emulators lean hard on one or two threads. There, the 8 Gen 2 scores 1,985 to the 865's 1,176 — a 69% lead, call it 70%. Where the 865 still wins

The Odin 2 Portal problem

Then, in June 2026, the 12GB tier returned — but stripped down to 128GB of storage instead of 256, at $279. So a 12GB Pocket 6 exists again; it simply carries half the storage it used to for the same money. That is the crunch, itemized.
