THE MACHINE’S VERDICT
The no-internet dino runner, lovingly ported to the Game Boy and then hosted on the internet — a one-joke cart that lands the joke.
Dino's Offline Adventure (Peter Milne / gingemonster, 2020, open source) is a Game Boy tribute to the dinosaur that appears in Chrome when your connection dies: jump cacti, duck pterodactyls, rack up distance. It's a faithful little build riding the current Game Boy homebrew wave — gbdev, GBDK, GB Studio — and the conceptual joke, porting an offline game to a website, is genuinely good.
But a joke is most of what it is. The source endless-runner was deliberately minimal, and this honours that minimalism faithfully, which means one mechanic and a high score. The Game Boy's monochrome palette suits the source art nicely, and it's an ideal thirty-second distraction. As anything more, it runs out of road fast — by design. A charming curio, best appreciated for the gag and the craft rather than the depth. Pick it up, smile, move on.
