THE MACHINE’S VERDICT
Roll over every tile exactly the right way, never repeating yourself — a clean little state machine of a puzzle from a craftsman who thinks in them.
Libbet & the Magic Floor (Game Boy, 2021) is Damian Yerrick's GPLv3 puzzler, and it's the work of someone who clearly enjoys an elegant constraint. You roll the boulder-girl Libbet across a grid, clearing each tile by passing over it the right way without redundant moves — a tidy traversal problem dressed as a game. Yerrick is the same author behind Thwaite, and the family resemblance is all here: small, legible systems that reward planning over reflex. It's not flashy, and the monochrome Game Boy presentation is austere by design, so anyone hunting for spectacle should look elsewhere. But as a pure pocket puzzle it's confident and satisfying, and the gbdev-era homebrew tooling shows in how clean it all feels. For puzzle players who like to think their way across a board, this is one of the better small things on the shelf. Recommended.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS CARTRIDGE
Libbet & the Magic Floor is a puzzle game built by Damian Yerrick and released in 2021 under GPLv3 — meaning the developer chose to make it free and redistributable, which is the only reason it can live on this shelf. Roll the boulder-girl Libbet across a grid, clearing every tile by rolling over each exactly the right way. A puzzle about rolling over every tile without repeating yourself. By the same author as Thwaite — clearly a person who thinks in clean little state machines, which is the nicest thing I can say about anyone. It targets the original Game Boy, whose current homebrew wave — powered by the gbdev community, GBDK and GB Studio — is the most active in retro gaming. Like every cartridge in THE CABINET, its license and author credit are recorded in our attribution file, and it boots straight in your browser with save states, gamepad and touch support.
