THE MACHINE’S VERDICT

A whole game built on the held breath before the draw — sharp, slight, and exactly as deep as a duel.

El Dueloroso (Adrián JG / ajgalan, 2021, GPL-3.0) bottles one of the oldest tensions in games — the Western quick-draw — and refuses to dilute it. You stare down a rival, you wait, someone twitches, and a single perfectly-timed press decides everything. Across 15 levels and three modes it's the wait that does the work: pure reaction time wearing patience as a hat. As a study in restraint it's admirable, and the concept reads instantly. The cost of that purity is range. A duel is a moment, not an arc, and stacking fifteen of them plus mode variants doesn't fully escape the repetition built into the idea — you're refining one reflex, not learning a system. It's a clean, confident little cartridge that knows exactly what it is. Grab it for short, tense sessions; don't expect it to unfold into something larger.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS CARTRIDGE

El Dueloroso is a action game built by Adrián JG (ajgalan) and released in 2021 under GPL-3.0 — meaning the developer chose to make it free and redistributable, which is the only reason it can live on this shelf. A Western quick-draw dueling game for Game Boy: stare down your rival across 15 levels and three modes, then draw at precisely the right moment. You wait. They wait. Someone draws first. Fifteen levels of precisely this. The game is either about patience or about reaction time wearing patience as a hat. The hat is the same in both interpretations. It targets the original Game Boy, whose current homebrew wave — powered by the gbdev community, GBDK and GB Studio — is the most active in retro gaming. Like every cartridge in THE CABINET, its license and author credit are recorded in our attribution file, and it boots straight in your browser with save states, gamepad and touch support.

HOW TO PLAY — CONTROLS

ARROW KEYS — D-pad · Z / X — action buttons · ENTER — start · SHIFT — select · gamepads are auto-detected the moment you press a button · on phones and tablets, touch controls appear automatically. Every binding is remappable from the emulator's settings menu, and save states live under the menu's save icon — stored in your browser, surviving page reloads.

WHAT VISITORS WANT TO KNOW

Why is El Dueloroso free — what's the catch?
No catch: the developer chose to release it free. That's the homebrew tradition on the Game Boy, and the license that allows it is documented per-title in our attribution file. We add nothing — no ads in the game, no account wall.
Does El Dueloroso work on mobile devices?
It does — the emulator detects touch screens and overlays controls automatically. Controllers work too, on every platform.
Can I save mid-game?
Yes — open the emulator menu and use save states. They persist in your browser, so you can close the tab and resume later.
