Rhythm Land (martendo, 2021, MIT) asks the original Game Boy to be a timing judge, and the old machine obliges down to a single frame. You jump, dodge and clap along to original chiptune compositions spread across multiple songs and mini-game-style segments — a structure that nods at the WarioWare rhythm school without the budget. The strengths are real: native music written for the hardware, tight windows, and a clear sense that the developer understands the system's clock intimately. The limits are equally real. It's a compact package built around a handful of tracks, and rhythm games live or die by volume of content; once you've internalized the songs, there isn't a deep well to return to.
