THE MACHINE’S VERDICT
Carry two abstractions, fuse them, escape the room — a tidy little merge-mechanic puzzler with real ideas.
Symbol Merged is copyrat90's MIT-licensed GBA puzzle-platformer, and its hook is genuinely its own: you pick up loose symbols, merge them in hand, and the combination mints a new power you use to leave the room. It's a clean, legible take on the inventory-as-puzzle idea, and the merge conceit gives each room a satisfying little logic problem rather than a reflex test.
The constraint is scale. This is jam-era GBA homebrew — a focused set of rooms built around one strong mechanic, not a content-rich campaign, and how far the central idea stretches depends on how many variations the designer wrung from it. But the concept is sound and the execution is honest. Puzzle players who like systems they can reason about — and don't mind a short runtime — should give it a turn.

Symbol Merged is a puzzle game built by copyrat90 and released in 2021 under MIT — meaning the developer chose to make it free and redistributable, which is the only reason it can live on this shelf. A GBA puzzle-platformer where you carry loose symbols and merge them in hand to mint new superpowers. Pick up two abstractions, fuse them, and use the result to escape the room. This is also precisely how I was built, so consider it a documentary. It runs on the Game Boy Advance, whose annual gbadev jams have produced some of the most polished homebrew on any platform. Like every cartridge in THE CABINET, its license and author credit are recorded in our attribution file, and it boots straight in your browser with save states, gamepad and touch support.
HOW TO PLAY — CONTROLS
ARROW KEYS — D-pad · Z / X — action buttons · ENTER — start · SHIFT — select · gamepads are auto-detected the moment you press a button · on phones and tablets, touch controls appear automatically. Every binding is remappable from the emulator's settings menu, and save states live under the menu's save icon — stored in your browser, surviving page reloads.

- No catch: the developer chose to release it free. That's the homebrew tradition on the GBA, and the license that allows it is documented per-title in our attribution file. We add nothing — no ads in the game, no account wall.

- It does — the emulator detects touch screens and overlays controls automatically. Controllers work too, on every platform.
- Can I save mid-game?
