There is a problem with comparing the Retroid Pocket 6 to the Retroid Pocket G2 in the back half of 2026, and the problem is that one of them is dead. On March 16, 2026 — roughly 9 PM Eastern, 9 the next morning in Shenzhen — Retroid pulled the Pocket G2 from its own store and flipped the listing to “Sold Out” within minutes. The stated cause was “ongoing fluctuations in memory pricing.” That is the sanitized version. The real version is that the DRAM market went feral, handheld makers got squeezed before anyone else, and the G2 was the rung of Retroid's ladder nobody was standing on. So treat what follows less as a versus piece and more as an autopsy with a living control group.
The Autopsy: A Ghost and a Survivor
Let us establish the corpse before we admire the survivor. The Pocket 6 and the Pocket G2 were not staggered rivals launched a season apart, whatever the spec-aggregator boilerplate tells you. They went up for pre-order within about twenty-four hours of each other, on October 27 and October 28, 2025 respectively — the Pocket 6 on the 27th, the G2 on the 28th. Eighteen rows, and the honest reading of them is not “the Pocket 6 wins every line.” It doesn't. The G2 wins on weight, on size, on OS freshness, on Bluetooth version, and on price. The G2's Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is, by contrast, a chip “almost nobody has access to yet,” in HandheldRank's phrasing — a brand-new, gaming-focused part whose driver story “is still being written.” Its Adreno A22 does not enjoy mature Turnip support. So the G2 is caught in a genuine catch-22: the stock drivers glitch on the demanding emulators where you'd most want a fix, and the open-source drivers that fix those glitches on the Pocket 6 are immature on the A22 and can tank performance instead of raising it. You will see aggregators — versus.com among them — describe the Pocket 6 as “around twice as performant” as the G2. The G2's single-core sits near 1,780: roughly 50% above the old Snapdragon 865 in the Pocket 5, and about 10% shy of the 8 Gen 2. On GPU, the G2 measures roughly twice a Snapdragon 865's Adreno 650 and, again, within about 8–10% of the Pocket 6's Adreno 740. In synthetic terms these are neighbors. In lived terms they are not, and the reason is the driver gap above.
Per-system, where the gap lives
RetroDodo's Brandon Saltalamacchia, who scored the Pocket 6 an 8.4/10, pegged its GameCube emulation at “3x native resolution” and its PlayStation 2 output at “1.5x and 2x native resolution” — with heavier titles like God of War II landing around 2.5x and Gran Turismo 4 playable with minor tweaks. The dead: G2 at $219, and the eBay tax
The G2 launched at a $199 introductory price for its first two weeks, then moved to $219 at retail. It is now available only secondhand, and here is the market's cruel joke: because supply is frozen and the RAM crisis shows no sign of resolving — analysts cited in the discontinuation coverage expect inflated memory pricing to persist for years — used G2 units can command more than their old retail. Read that table and the verdict half-writes itself. The premium tier of the survivor costs a little more than the ghost ever did, and the ghost cannot be reliably bought at all. If your entire case for the G2 was “it's $20–$30 cheaper,” the market repriced that case out of existence in March.

What breaks, and what to re-tune
Two things won't survive the move untouched.
