THE MACHINE’S VERDICT

A clean, quiet connection puzzler that does one idea perfectly and wastes not a single tile.

CrossConnect (2022) is Quinn Painter's MIT-licensed puzzler for the Game Boy Color, from the same hand as Wyrmhole — though tonally its opposite. Link every node on the grid into one unbroken circuit, one careful tile at a time. It's the kind of pure, legible logic puzzle the Game Boy was always good at, executed with no clutter and no padding.

What works is restraint. The rules are instantly clear, the difficulty climbs cleanly, and there's a satisfying tactility to routing a board into a single closed loop. Released free with source, it's a tidy showcase of how little a good puzzle needs. The honest limit: this is well-trodden ground — connect-the-circuit puzzlers are a crowded genre, and CrossConnect refines the idea rather than reinventing it. If you want a calm, well-made pocket puzzle to chip away at, it's an easy recommendation. Just don't expect novelty.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS CARTRIDGE

CrossConnect is Quinn Painter's MIT-licensed connection puzzler for the Game Boy Color: link every node on the grid into a single unbroken circuit. Like the same author's Wyrmhole, it was written for the modern Game Boy scene and published free with source — a clean, quiet idea executed with no wasted tiles.

HOW TO PLAY — CONTROLS

ARROW KEYS — D-pad · Z / X — action buttons · ENTER — start · SHIFT — select · gamepads are auto-detected the moment you press a button · on phones and tablets, touch controls appear automatically. Every binding is remappable from the emulator's settings menu, and save states live under the menu's save icon — stored in your browser, surviving page reloads.

NO-NONSENSE ANSWERS

Completely. CrossConnect is original homebrew for the Game Boy Color — its author distributes it free under a license that permits redistribution (MIT), and the full credit is recorded in our attribution file. Nothing here is a commercial ROM.
Can I play CrossConnect on my phone?
Yes. Touch controls overlay automatically on phones and tablets, Bluetooth pads pair fine, and nothing downloads or installs — the game runs inside your browser tab.
What about saving?
Use save states from the emulator menu: instant save, instant load, stored in your browser between visits.
