Migrating to the Pro
If you have decided you are the OLED buyer and you are moving from a base PS5 or a still-kicking PS4 Pro, the transfer is mercifully well-trodden. If you own a 4K/120 OLED and you play the showcase titles, the $300 lands on the right side of the ledger. If you sit ten feet from a 55-inch mid-range set, The Verge already told you the answer: not tangible. If you are on 1080p, the purchase is indefensible, full stop.
The data-backed recommendation
The numbers point one direction. Metacritic tops out at 80 and bottoms out at 60. IGN gives it a 7. The critical consensus is 'most powerful, not essential, wait if unsure.' So: buy the PS5 Pro only if all three of these are true — you own a 4K OLED (ideally 120Hz), you actually play graphically ambitious games, and $900-plus-drive does not sting. Miss any one of those and the base PS5 disc model at $649.99 is the smarter machine, with the difference redirected to a library you will finish.
